The certificate for 2000-Watt Society is a distinction awarded to settlement areas able to demonstrate a sustainable treatment of resources and climate protection for the construction of buildings and their operation and renewal, as well as the mobility generated by operation. Sustainable to me is not to over-use the energy consumption but it’s about the GHG emissions reduction. According to 2000-Watt every individual on this planet should use an average of 2000 Watts as the primary energy level. We must reduce our emission to keep the global warming under 1.5 degree Celsius. This rating system is quite different from the other certification systems. This deals not only with the energy and buildings but also with primary Energy at site, governance, and centrality level.
There are three types of certificates, for 2000-Watts under Development, Operation and Transformation stage of the project and there are two criterions under which we check the compliance of the site. Qualitative and Quantitative.
A qualitative criteria catalogue is used to ensure a high quality of the site development process and evaluates the six subject areas which are:
Smart Governance :
This criteria evaluates the management and structure of the site that that allows the planning, development, implementation and operation, coordination with relevant stakeholders and their involvement, citizen engagement, integrated monitoring and e-governance;
Smart Centrality :
This criteria evaluates the master plan, design plan, development master plan with respect to settlement, mobility, landscape, resources and environment, hazards, and economy;
Smart mobility :
This criteria evaluates various aspects with respect to energy-efficient and sustainable mobility strategies encouraging high quality infrastructure, low emission transportation at the site and switching towards greener fuel;
Smart Energy & environment :
This criteria checks the compliance for the energy consumed on the site is to a large extent produced on-site or locally and is of high ecological quality, water supply and water consumption on the site obey the resource-efficiency principle, the site has a phase-adapted concept related to implementation of measures for waste management,
This subject area ensures an optimal solution in terms of architecture / urban design, functionality, economy and energy/environment are provided with level-appropriate inclusion of specifications of the 2000-Watt Site. In the project, buildings with the highest building standards which concerns the total energy requirement (technical installations for space heating, hot water, ventilation and air conditioning, lighting, equipment) as well as the other aspects of sustainable construction (society, economy, environmental) and operation, are considered;
Smart food production & tech centers :
This ensures that a sufficient number of agriculture and research centers are made available to the farmers and principal investigators to study various aspects of vegetable improvement and production
Quantitative proof is established by means of the calculated and measured operating values for construction, embodied energy of built environment and mobility. At the same time a high quality of life on the site is aimed for. It encompasses all phases of a site’s life cycle: development, planning, implementation, and operation of newly constructed sites. Additionally, existing sites that undergo a long-term transformation-process along a target path can also be monitored.
